1st Generation Beanie Babies

1st Generation Beanie Babies that have the 1st Generation Hang Tag can be worth money.

Those are some of the most rare Beanie Babies available on the secondary market and some can sell for hundreds of dollars even today.

The Beanie Babies with the 1st Generation Hang Tag were some of the very first Beanie Babies to be produced in early 1994. Many of the Beanie Babies on this page will continue to be made throughout the generations of Beanie Babies.

Sell Your Beanie Babies

If you have Beanie Babies on this page, watch this video to see if yours might have value:

Determining the value of your Ty Beanie Beanies can be a frustrating process.

A 1st Generation Chocolate The Moose is rare and has a value of probably over $100+. Put it side-by-side next to a 5th Generation Chocolate The Moose, which might be worth $1-$5, and they look almost identical.

The ones with the 1st Generation Hang Tag are worth the most, whereas versions with different tags can be almost worthless.

The tags make a huge difference in the value of your Beanie Babies and be sure to look them over closely before you think you have a rare plush toy.

The good news is, finding out if you have a 1st Generation Beanie Babie is easier then figuring out most Generations.

1st Generation Hang Tags DO NOT open like a book. And 1st Generation Tush Tags are in black and white.

You must have both of these tags to be considered a 1st/1st Generation Ty Beanie Babies.

1st gen

1st Generation Tag

Below are some more facts about 1st Generation Tags.

1st Generation Hang Tag Faq:

  • 1st Generation Hang Tags are flat and do not open up like a book.
  • 1st Gen. Hang Tag Beanie Babies were made in either China or Korea.
  • Tags that are still attached to the Beanie Baby and in good condition are worth more.
  • Buyers of early Beanie Babies would often remove the tag. BB’s without tags are worth less.
  • 1st Generation U.K. Beanie Babies had a special tag. Those are ultra rare and hardly seen.
  • Many people get fooled thinking they have a valuable Beanie Baby, only to find out it doesn’t have a 1st Generation Hang Tag and was apart of another Generation that was mass produced.
  • The ‘Teenie Beanies’ distributed by McDonalds also had flat tags.
  • McDonalds Teenie Beanies are not considered apart of the 1st Generation family.
  • The McDonalds Beanie Babies are clearly marked ‘Teenie’ and are generally worth less.

    Hi Anita,
I have 150+ beanie babies…maybe 2/3 of them still have the ear tag but have been removed so I could wash the beanie babies. Even thought I still have the ear tags for these, does it mean that they have little to no value any longer because the ear tag is no longer attached with the red plastic connector? One of these beanie babies is the “Garcia” bear with the rare misprint on the ear tag (“use” instead of “used”) and I was hoping to sell it, but I’m not sure what the true value would be. I haven’t gotten it authenticated…should I? I’ve seen these bears on eBay selling anywhere from $24.99 to $3,000.00 which doesn’t make sense to me why there is such a huge range in selling price for the same rare BB. Any insight you can provide is much appreciated! Thank you. ~Keri

Hello! Unfortunately on eBay there are a lot of crazy listed prices for all kinds of things from baseball cards to beanie babies. Ty made over 20 million Princess Bears. There was a time when they first came out they were worth over $1,000. That was over 15 years ago. Today, no Princess bear is really considered rare, and they typically sell in the $1-$10 range, no matter the variation or style.

Caught me fuming about what is going on on ebay. Princess is on ebay at vast prices. I have been in ty’s for many years. Queued all night + had to buy lots of other ones to get the one you were after. Also I was at lots of fairs & got loads of rare ones for me & friends. I bought a whole collection for 100.s of pounds I still have rare first gen attics & sets of large bears.I have Blackie large bear, he is in one of the books but without a tag. Mine does have a tag & it says ” with love” on it. I had Brownie & authenticated it & was sold at Btitainia Fairs & sold for a very good amount. I got Royal Blue Peanut from the same person & did not get it authenticated as I was keeping it.I am on here as I am looking to get it authenticated ( in UK ) & sell it.
I love Sekura 1 & bought it for over £100, Sold it to a friend as I would still see it. Would you believe I bought one on ebay sealed in it’s authenticated box for £9.99. All Krazy. I could go on for ever, but rant over LOL

Lovemybeenies you are a wealth of knowledge on these little guys. I just inherited all of my childhood collection from my parents house the other day. We’re talking over a hundred 1st gen to 5th gen. Phew I’m exhausted just reading about them. And I find so much humor in people’s comments they leave here. The same questions over and over and some people are just downright rude to you. Sorry you have to deal with so many losers. Thanks for your help this was the best website to learn about bbabies for sure.

I have found Quackers with a 4th generation hang tag but no website address at the bottom of the poem.
I have read that all 4th generation beanies should have the ty address on them.
It has all the markings of a real beanie. The tush tag says p.v.c pellets handmade in china etc etc.
Is it a tag mistake? Has any body ever heard of this mistake?

Reply
    Love My Beanies - 14 May, 2015

There are some versions that won’t have the website printed at the bottom. Coral is an example of another Beanie Babie that has a 4th Gen tag that can have no website printed at the bottom.

      Just one more thing.
Quackers also had a ty Deutshland, 90008 Nurnberg where the usual Canada address goes… Does this make him a rarer Beanie given that there is no web address also???

Also did you read any of the 3 books that were written by Karen Holmes on beanies…..she has a web site too under Karen Brit good one to.
I don’t mean to correct you I was just responding as friend who loves his collection and would be proud to show his collection…but he wants to find a place and display for others to enjoy

Has over 1,300 of them and his collection is one of the finest collection I have ever seen just bears now…..it is worth thousands of dollars and insurance is very high because some of them are ONE OF A KIND and never be able to replace.

Hello. I am not sure what you are trying to ask. “How do u even know about Ty Beanies” comes across a little rough….. I did not write a book, but have read several good ones about Beanie Babies over the years. If there is something specific you disagree about on the website, please point it out so I can either correct it, or show you how/where I got that information.

Your friends collection sounds amazing. It’s great to see people still collect and appreciate Beanie Babies.

Looks like a real Beanie. Generally you can tell by looking at the eyes. I have seen a Valentino and a Blackie recently with the same coloration of the tag. Perhaps some of the dye didn’t transfer when they made the tags giving them a pink and white look. It won’t have much value, but it is a unique item.

I was thinking if the other 2 Beanies you have seen have the same tag defect, then I wonder if they where both made in Indonesia also?( Line mine ) Could of been a fault in that factory perhaps?? Anyway thanks for the information.

I bought a selection of 1st gen Beanies because everyone was saying “these things are going to be worth a fortune!” I’ve sat on these for 20 years now and the best that I can say is that they’ve held their value of about $6. Big whoop. I just handed Chocolate, Scoop, Kiwi and Sly to my 6 year old daughter to play with. She tore off the 20 year old tags in under a few seconds and absolutely loves them. Seeing them being played with after all this time gathering dust I realise this is what gives them value.

Actually, the question on McDonald’s should Articulate they are in a cardboard and clear plastic cover and not typical of the smaller McDonald’s BB that have a simple plastic wrap. The cardboard back indicates the Ronald McDonalds House.

Reply
    Love My Beanies - 6 April, 2015

The only McDonald Beanie Babie worth more than $10 is a 2004 Convention exclusive that can sell for over $20. All others, including the cardboard backed versions are in the $0.50-$1.00 range. It was the most popular promotion in McDonald’s history, and millions exist of each version.

OK, STILL A LITTLE CONFUSED HERE. I KNOW MY PATTI IS NOT 1ST AS IT HAS A BOOKLET TAG WITH COVER. BORN JAN. 6, 1993 WITH A POEM. FRONT OF TAG HAS
THE YELLOW STAR (BEANIE ORIGINAL BABY) UPC CODE IS: 08421 04025. IT HAS A TUSH TAG, BUT I DON’T KNOW WHAT REG.NO PA 1965 (KR) MEANS. I ALSO HAVE A BAGGED “ZIP” WITH A SINGLE TAG AND TUSH TAG. 1993. THE TOP OF BAG SAYS “10,”
IF THIS IS NOT DELVING INTO TRYING TO SELL, PLEASE LET ME KNOW I ALSO HAVE CHOCOLATE MOOSE, RETIRED. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR ANSWER.

Lol, to think you morons believe that a stuffed animal made 20 years ago is worth something is humorous. As they say there is a sucker born everyday which is why you see these things listed on ebay for Tens of thousands of dollars. Show me one that has a bid, or actually sold for even close to $1,000???? When my wife & I were dating during the beanie baby craze i bought her just about every bear from Diana to Erin at $6.25 a piece and they are the first gen with the star on the tag etc. they all say handmade etc. Anyone Wanna buy my collection of about 25 bears? the First $1,000 takes it.

Mildred, anyone call you an offer your $1,000’s for your bears. Get a grip people these are worthless and always will be.

    Love My Beanies - 31 March, 2015

One of the only person to remain rich off the Beanie Babies craze is Ty Warner, who parlayed the billions he made on the toys into buying some of the nicest hotels in the United States. He also owns a home valued at $150 million in Southern California.

To correct one thing you said, Erin and Diana did not come with 1st Generation Tags. Diana and Erin were released well into the craze. Beanie Babies with 1st Generation tags were some of the very first to be made before the hype and bubble. A 1st Generation Patti is actually worth a few hundred dollars. But a 5th Generation Patti would be lucky to fetch $.25 cents.

Most people see the price some of the rare 1st Generation Beanies still sell for and think they have one. In reality, 99.9% of the time they have the version that is worthless.

Wow Jim. How much more of an immature child can you be? Stooping so low to call people names just because they have a hobby of collecting and selling toys? So i guess in your theory, those who collect and sell cars, furniture, etc. are morons as well? Just because you dont like something doesnt give you the right to call others who do…names. But keep this in mind, those who do keep and then sell their items and get a lot for them, lets just say they are smarter than you because they are getting lots of money for them..What are you getting by sitting here and calling people names? Yep, thats right, not a darn thing…lol

Hello. It sounds like your friend has a nice collection. I was just trying to temper the expectation that one might be worth $5,000.

I’ve tracked Beanie Babies sales for the last year, none has sold for over $5,000: http://lovemybeanies.com/beanie-babies-worth-money/

When I check prices I make sure to see if feedback was left by the buyer. Many, many times on eBay you see outrageous prices for things, and even high prices for “completed” items. Those sales never were completed. It happens all the time on eBay, and not just with Beanie Babies.

I’ve become very familiar with the Billionaire Bears and #1 Employee Bears that were given out to employees. Those have value because generally they are A) Serial Numbered to a limited quantity, and B) Some come autographed by Ty Warner.

99.9% of Beanie Babies are worthless and have no value. Ty Warner didn’t intend to create a product that had secondary value. He was trying to sell a ton of toys.

I’m familiar with the Karen Holmes book, it is very good and has relevant information. Although, I wouldn’t use any prices from there, as the last edition is from 2007. The only place to get real, tangible sales data is from eBay, and take the extra step to verify the buyer left feedback for the seller. It’s tedious and takes a lot of time to gather that data. In the last year, there might have been 2 or 3 Beanie Babies that I can confirm sold for over $1,000. But none have sold for anywhere close to $5,000.

There is a lot of mis-information about Beanie Babies and their value. Very, very few are worth anything. Most of the ones people think are worth something, aren’t. There are so many fakes out there it’s unbelievable. I see someone pay $100+ for a fake Royal Blue Peanut almost every week. Counterfeiting was a real problem back in those days and the only way to get top dollar for a potentially rare beanie babie is to have it authenticated.

Hi again!

I have been trying to educate myself on ‘generations’ etc, and I’m even more confused than before, it seems! 🙂 Over the last couple of months I have collected many beanies, focusing on ones that had tush tags of 1993-1995. Lately I have been reading that if the tush tags have a ‘star’ on them, they are not rare. I assumed if they were from 1993 they WERE rare. Is that a wrong assumption? Here is a list of the ones I have along with a note on whether or not they have a star on the tush tag. I’m guessing I don’t really have anything of real value? So, if it has a star on it, no matter what the date, that means it was mass produced? Thank you so much for your time and help in sorting this out!

Hello Coleen. Sounds like you have a 1st Generation Tush Tag Daisy: http://lovemybeanies.com/1st-generation-beanie-babies-tush-tag/ which is a nice find. Without the hang tag that does hurt any potential value. It could be either a 1st, 2nd or 3rd Generation Hang Tag. As it sits, to the right person, maybe $10-30 or so? With the hang tag, if it was a 1st/1st, it could be worth $100 or more. A 2nd/1st might be in the $50 range. Despite it not having the Hang Tag it’s a nice pickup. If you ever see any with 1st Generation tush tags, it’s worth buying them if you see them at places like goodwill for cheap.

Hello Coleen. Sorry it has taken me a few days to get back to you. Hopefully I can help you out:

Garcia: These are a little hit or miss. Most sell in the $10 range, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. There are some quirks to some of them, the Poem can have an error saying “The Beanies use to follow” instead of “used”. One like that sold for about $50 recently. Check your poem to see if maybe you have that one. If the poem is normal, you are probably in the $8-15 range.

Mystic: these are a little tough because there are so many different versions. See if you can tell me which Tush Tag it has.

The ones that are worth the most will have either:
          1st Gen Tush Tags: http://lovemybeanies.com/1st-generation-beanie-babies-tush-tag/
          2nd Gen Tush Tags: http://lovemybeanies.com/2nd-generation-beanie-babies-tush-tags/

If it doesn’t have one of those two tush tags, then it has minimal value. If you do have a 1st or 2nd Gen version, let me know and then I can give you an idea what the value might be.

Teddy: Looks like you might have a new face version because of the 11/28/95 birthday. Does it have a 1st or 2nd Gen Tush Tag like the mystic one? Let me know on the tush tag with that one too. Also, what color is your Teddy?

Thank you for your offer to pay for this 🙂 But I enjoy doing this and it’s fun to help out where I can.

Hello Brian, outside of putting them on eBay, or perhaps trying to sell them locally, there really isn’t a go to place to get the best price for them. You might want to go through them and see if you have any with a 1st Gen Tush Tag: http://lovemybeanies.com/1st-generation-beanie-babies-tush-tag/ just to rule out you don’t have one that might be an easy sell.

Hello Kristen! The best place to start with a collection that big is to see if you have any with a 1st Generation Hang Tag and/or a 1st Generation Tush Tag. Here you can find info on the 1st Gen Hang Tags: http://lovemybeanies.com/beanie-babies-hang-tag-generations-1-4/ if you find one with one of those tags, it will also have a 1st Generation Tush Tag: http://lovemybeanies.com/1st-generation-beanie-babies-tush-tag/

The 1st Generation hang tags should be easy to spot as they don’t open like a book like other hang tags. If you find one of those, let me know which one you have and I can give you an idea what it might be worth.

If you don’t find any 1st Generations ones, start looking for 2nd Generation versions. The 1st/2nd generation beanie babies are older and typically worth more, so it’s best to try and find the older ones first.

Let me know if you need help after looking over what you have. eBay is the best place to sell beanie babies, but with you being in South Africa that might complicate things a little. See if you have any that are 1st/2nd Generation and then I can point you in the right direction if you are looking to sell.

I have a white Seal, with no name on tush tag. I think it is 1st generation, it says 1993, handmade in China. No hand tag though. Any advice?
