Original 9

Flash is apart of the Original 9 Beanie Babies group and was one of the very first to be shown off at a 1993 toy show by Ty Warner.

Beware of Counterfeit Flash's!

In a 1998 article by Graeme Zielinski for the Chicago Tribune, U.S. Customs Service agents made an unexpected discovery while inspecting a shipment from China at O'Hare International Airport. Initially searching for drugs, the agents instead found counterfeit Beanie Babies, including flawed versions of popular characters like Flash the Dolphin, Smoochy the Frog and Bruno the Dog.

Customs inspector Eddie Gross indicated that these knockoffs had a substantial flea market value—almost half a million dollars (in 1998). The shipment was part of a broader scheme by two couples from Streamwood to distribute these counterfeit toys. While no charges had been filed at the time, this bust was noted as one of about a dozen that year involving counterfeit Beanie Babies.

Love My Beanies

  • I have a flash but it’s not a shark. On the hang tag and the tush tag it says flash but it’s a guinea pig. Is this a mistake?

  • Hi I have a first generation flash but on the swing tag there is a triangular sticker stuck on it And I’m afraid to pull it off do you know what it’s worth or even if it’s authentic? thanks!

  • my mom started buying these as soon as they came out and she had every one of them that ever came out and she had two or three of most of them. I ended up with the entire set in a huge huge box. I think I’ve got two original nine sets, but she absolutely loved them and she cherished them. And said one day these will be worth a lot of money. They are in showroom quality and most of them arebin those plastic glass container things I have read online and I’ve actually called places in LA in New York and everyone has told me that they flooded the market and they’re not worth anything and they probably never will be; then this comes up so I don’t know…I don’t know what to think or even where to look and you are seeing prices but no one is saying they were actually sold, they didn’t tell us where they’re sold too. If someone would like to get a hold of me because they need one or two or 10 get a hold of me mom would love to thought that I actually made money off of these. Sorry I don’t have a website and let me know which ones you want to see? I don’t even know if I can put my number on here but I’m gonna give it a shot. If it gets turned down it gets turned down I’ll redo it. 870-495-0143. I’m currently in Southern California. I retired from the military and I’m fixing to move back to southern Missouri so that’s my story.
