Ty Warner Agrees to Plead Guily – Pay $53.5 Million Tax Fine – September 18, 2013
Ty Inc owner Ty Warner agrees to plead guilty to felony tax evasion and will pay a $53.5 million fine for money he held in offshore bank accounts.  On October 2, 2013 Warner is scheduled to make his guilty plea in the Dirksen United States Courthouse located in Chicago, IL. Warner’s lawyer says: “This is an unfortunate situation that Mr. Warner has been trying to resolve for several years now.”

Beanie Bubble Burst – September 1, 2013
Alex Planes of The Motley Fool shares some interesting nuggets about the Beanie Baby boom of the 1990’s. Apparently the creator of the popular video game, Duke Nukem, was a fan of the toys and bought four #1 Employee Bears back in the day.

George Mathis of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution describes a little bit of the rise and fall of Beanie Babies prices. Including the tidbit that in 1998, a McDonald’s in Riverdale had to hire extra security because of the promotional Beanies availble at the fast food resturant.

A mother & daughter team who had been collecting Beanie Babies since the early 1990’s donated more than 200 of them to a local hospital in Stow, OH.

Local Michigan Garage Sale Finds – August 10, 2013
At a Michigan Largest Garage Sale one lady has found success picking up Beanie Babies, some of which she donates to local hospitals. The collector of 15 years says she has found good deals at the garage sale.

In a somewhat “interesting” blog post by Nadia Bolz Weber, she recounts a story of a pastor who showed off his Beanie Baby collection to her. She remembers one being very rare but she wasn’t into the toys. She says that humans attachments to rare things, like valuable Beanie Babies, is why humans have a hard time being rich toward God.

Family Goes Broke Buying $100,000 in Beanie Babies July 23, 2013
Several outlets including ABC News picked up a story about a man, Chris Robinson, who along with his family spent over $100,000 buying Beanie Babies during the 1990’s as an investment. Well…. you know how this story ends up. He is stuck with Beanie Babies that will probably never be worth anywhere close to what he paid for them.
