Beanie Babies Hang Tag Generations 1-4

All Beanie Babies come with a Ty Hang Tag that will be vital to know if any of your Beanie Babies are worth money.

Hang tags also are referred to as Swing and Heart Tags.  Here you will find information on the Hang Tags for the first 4 Generations of Beanie Babies.

Most 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Generation Beanie Babies, with proper tags, can be worth money even today.

Once you start getting into 4th Generation Beanie Babies and up, very few of those are worth money so keep that in mind.

If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment on this page! Happy Beanie hunting!

1st Generation Hang Tags – Skinny Ty Logo

  • All 1st Generation Heart Tags are flat and do not open up like a book.
  • 1st Gen. Hang Tag Beanie Babies were made in either China or Korea.
  • Tags that are still attached to the Beanie Baby and in good condition are worth more.
  • 1st Generation U.K. Beanie Babies had a special tag with 'CE' on the white side of the tag.
  • Collectors often refer to the 1st Generation Heart Tags as "Skinny Ty" for the skinny Ty lettering on the front.
  • The 'Teenie Beanies' distributed by McDonalds also had flat tags.
  • McDonalds Teenie Beanies are not considered apart of the 1st Generation family.
  • The McDonalds Beanie Babies are clearly marked 'Teenie' and are worth less.

Many people get fooled and think they have a valuable Beanie Baby, only to find out it doesn't have a 1st Generation Hang Tag and was apart of another Generation that was mass produced.

2nd Generation Hang Tags

  • 2nd Generation Heart Tags DO open like a book.
  • The “Skinny Ty” is still the font on the front of the tags.
  • On the back of the tag, there is a bar code and the phrase “Retain Tag For Reference.”
  • Beanie Babies from the U.K will have the ‘CE’ logo on inside.

Be CAREFUL of counterfeit 2nd Generation Hang Tags. You can see a counterfeit U.K. tag below. Notice that the LTD is in all caps. On authentic tags, it will be written Ltd.

3rd Generation Hang Tags – Bubble Font Ty

The Ty Logo is now in a “bubble font” style. Beanie Babies with the 3rd Generation Heart Tag and a 1st Generation Tush Tag can be worth money for the right beanie.

There are many different versions of the Heart Tags in the 3rd Generation and below you can see the differences.

3rd Generation Tag - Variation 1

Known as the “German Tags” these can be very rare and sought after for 3rd Generation Beanie Babies. You’ll also notice that the “to” and “from” on the tag will be written in italics while other Beanie Babies with 3rd Generation Heart Tags will have regular font.

On the inside of the Tag it has The Beanie Babies Collection underlined and the words: All Rights Reserved. Caution: Remove this tag before giving toy to a child. Handmade in China. Surface Wash. The back will be distinguishable by the “Importeur Ty Ty Deutschland” at the top of the tag. Also look for the U.K. ‘CE’ mark next to the bar code.

3rd Generation Tag - Variation 2

The 3rd Generation Tag with the “Retain Tag For Reference” phrase on the back of the tag seem somewhat rare. The inside of the tag is also unique as it has the © on the left and also the phrase “For ages 3 and up.”

3rd Generation Tag - Variation 3

The distinguishing feature on these 3rd Generation Swing Tags is that on the back of the tag, it says “Please remove all swing tags before giving this item to a child under 36 months.”

Next to the bar code is the U.K. ‘CE’ logo. On the inside of the tag, only the U.S.A address has the © logo next to it.

3rd Generation Tag - Variation 4

On these 3rd Gen Swing Tags you’ll now notice that the © logo is next to all the addresses on the inside of the tag.

On the back, the phrase is slightly different as it now says: “Please remove all swing tags before giving this item to a child”.

4th Generation Hang Tags – Poems!

These are the first Beanie Babies to have the poem and date of birth written on the swing tag. There are a few different variations of 4th Gen swing tags, be sure to check to see which one you have.

PLEASE NOTE:
99.9% of Beanie Babies with a 4th Gen Hang Tags are worth less than $5

These were the first tags to have www.ty.com on the tags. The Ty company was having some issues with obtaining the domain name, and on some 4th Generation tags the domain will be cut off, or a white sticker will be applied over the area with the website.

4th Generation Tag Variation – Sticker over www.ty.com

These are considered somewhat rare, as Ty placed a white sticker over the portion of the tag that says: “Visit our Webpage!!! http://www.ty.com”

You can see that even the sticker doesn’t completely cover up the website text on these 4th Generation Beanie Babies.

Typically Beanies that have this type of tag can sell for $8-50+.  Some can be found on eBay for $9.99 or less. It just all depends on which Beanie you have and if there are some collectors out there who will are willing to pay more than $10.

4th Generation Tag Variation – No Website printed at bottom

There are some 4th Generation Tags that instead of a sticker over the website information, they simply leave that off the tag.

This Coral 4th Gen Beanie sold for $26.00 in May 2013. Like the ones with the sticker over the website, these tags can be hit or miss in terms of value. $26.00 is a good price on the Coral and many Beanies with this type of 4th Gen Tag will be worth less than that.

4th Generation Tag Variation – Germany + Website Info

These Swing tags are very common to find on 4th Generation Beanie Babies.

They will have the website information at the bottom (Ty must have paid decent money for the domain) and also the Germany Ty address will be printed on the left hand side of the tag. On these tags the line: The Beanie Babies ™ Collection has the ™ mark.

4th Generation Tag Variation – Canada Address + ®

This variation of the 4th Gen Swing Tag is very similar to the one posted above.

The subtle differences are that is now has the Canada Ty address instead of the Germany one. Also, they but a ® and a ™ in the line: The Beanie Babies ® Collection ™

Love My Beanies

  • I’m trying to find what generation my frog “legs” is from your website. It looks like a 3rd generation variation 4, but mine swing tag does not have “CE” on the back.

  • Hello! My question is for Georgette, I have a third generation hang tag, but can’t figure out the Tush tag as it is a rusty Brown color with ©1993 Ty inc. Pvc Pellets reg. Pa 1965 [KR]? Want aware the tush tags come in different colors? Also have a 2000 hang tag cashew with a shiny silver tush tag? Thank You for any help an have a Great Week!

    • Hello Kellie! Your Georgette is actually apart of the Ty Attic Treasures line, which is kind of like a different “model” of Beanie Babies. They had some different type of Tush Tags that were different from regular Beanie Babies. Your Cashew is a regular Beanie Babie and the shiny silver tag is from the 9th Generation. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Hi, I have a Flitter and Valentina, both with what appear to be 4th gen tags with Canada address but they’re slightly different than you show here. It says “The Beanie Babies Collection +R” (you know, the R with the circle around it :)). It does list the website but without the http:// and no “visit our web page!”. Any chance that these differences are noteworthy? I.e., of course, more valuable? Thanks!

    • Hello Lisa! It appears that Flitter and Valentina both come with 5th Generation Hang Tags which are just as you described them. I haven’t created a page for 5th Generation Tags and above, but have been meaning to. Both Flitter & Valentina can have different types of 5th Gen Tags, but from what I have seen, none that create extra value.

  • Hi I have a few beanies with error one is chocalte moose and the other is I believe Valentino what is the value and should I get them COA.thanks

  • Hi my name is Deanna. I have the set of iguanas. Iggy and Rainbow and their tags are switched. Iggy is named rainbow and rainbow is named iggy. On both tags it is like this. 5th gen. Swing tags by the way

  • I have at least 100 beanie babies. I’ve looked up the names of quite a few and they were supposedly “retired” like Derby, Erin, Millennium, and Hope. I need help determining what they are worth. All are mint condition with tags attached some in the tag nprotective cases.

    please and thank you

  • Hi, my name is Mary. I got a Manny the Manatee beanie baby with a poem error ‘like’ instead of ‘likes’ (She likes to twirl and like to bow). It has a 4th generation variation 3 (Germany and website info), and I don’t know if it’s a rare mistake or a common one.

  • I have a lot of beanie babies that websites say are rare but some have the tag missing so would that make them worthless and I also have a princess Diana one but without its tag also so would that be worthless also

    • Hello, a couple have recently sold online for about $7-10. It’s apart of the Classics line, which are larger than Beanie Babies.

  • Help lol have about 300 beanies some rare some not id like to sell as a whole. Any advice? Trying not to get ripped, I inherited them awhile back and in 1999 she had them appraised for about 15000-20000. Thank you

    • Hello! Your best bet is to go through and pick out the ones with 1st Generation Tush Tags: http://lovemybeanies.com/1st-generation-beanie-babies-tush-tag/

These are the earliest ones and can be worth decent money depending what Hang Tag it has. Beanie Babies with 1st Generation Tush Tags can only have hang tags that are 1st, 2nd or 3rd Generation. Versions with “1st/1st” Tags are worth the most, and ones with 3rd/1st Tags tend not to be worth as much.

See if you have any first generations versions and try to determine what hang tag it has. This page describes hang tag generations 1-3 and can help you out. Let me know if you found any, which generation both tags are from, and I can help you on some potential values.

  • Hello. I have a few of the original 9 beanies. Two without hang tags but thy do have the tush tags. Are they worth anything? Then, I have two that have I believe 4th gen hang tags. Are they worth anyrhing? All four in great condition. I have over 1,000 an all have always been kept in cases.

    • The misspelling of the hang tag is fairly common on 4th Generation versions, the value though would depend on which Beanie Babie it is.

  • I have 4th/5th generation beanies. I have seen on ebay.com that several of them are priced into the thousands. Is this legit? I have the Princess in mint condition and kept in container since she came home with me. Is it possible that she is really worth $10000?

    • 99.9% of 4th and 5th Generation Beanie Babies are worthless. eBay sellers will put crazy prices on their items for some reason. The odds of them selling for that price are 0. I think the most valuable Princess Bear might be worth $40. The rest are in the $2 range. Ty made over 1 million princess bears, they are very common and have very little value.

  • Hi I have a first 9 patti the platypus with both 1rst generation tags on it and in excellent condition do you know how much she could be sold of thanks 🙂

    • Hello! If it’s an authentic 1st/1st Patti it is rare and worth decent money. Probably at least $150 depending on the condition.

  • Hi I need help. I have a ty pj bear from 1990. His tush tag says he is made in korea. His hangtag is 2nd generation. He has a red ribbon around his neck.

  • Hello, I was wondering what the value would be if a beanie baby has multiple swing tags ( factory accident) Have you ever seen one with 2or 3 swing tags ? I’ve seen them with double tush tags.

  • I have a fuzz beanie baby in good condition. He has double tush tags and one is holographic. He has know stars on his tush tag. He also has 1998 on his hang tag and 1999 on his tush tag. He also has Ty Europe and Ty Canada on his hang tag. I think he may be worth a lot of money but iI’m naot sure. Can you tell me what you think?

  • Hi , I have couple hundred 4 th generation and I have a few of the ones from Macsonalds. Are they worth anything ? Thanks

    Donna

  • I have a first gen 1993 teenie beanie Bones with hang tag in great shape. Could it be worth anything? Also I have several more teenies from same generation. And I have three beanie baby plush dolls. Have you ever seen those?

    • Hello! The McDonalds Beanies were the most successful promotion in the history of McD’s but unfortunately that means millions were made. Teenie Beanies have very limited value, maybe $1-$3 or so. The dolls might be Attic Treasures? Or perhaps another one of his other lines. Typically only older Beanie Babies have collectible value, his other lines and newer toys don’t have much collectible value.

  • Hi I have a 4th generation Seaweed™ style 2080 beanie baby with a germany + website info swing tag. Could it be worth anything?

  • I have a ton of beanie babies my grandmother has been saving for me and she just gave them to me and I am very confused on what I have and what they are worth. Where can I find someone trustworthy enough to not rip me off. She gave them to me to sell for money towards a honeymoon!

    • Off the top of my head I can’t think of any. Possibly a rare one that wasn’t released in stores.

  • I have a 4th generation valentino in perfect never played with condition, in plastic case, is it worth anything? Thanks
