1st Generation Beanie Babies Tush Tags

1st Generation Beanie Baby Tush Tags are really straight forward and simple. They have black lettering on white background sewn into the tush area of the Beanie Baby.

Beanie Babies with 1st or 2nd Generation Hang Tag will have a 1st Generation Tush Tag EVERYTIME.

Some 3rd Generation Hang Tag Beanie Babies will also have the 1st Generation Tush Tag.  Generally speaking, Beanie Babies with a 1st Gen Tush Tag can be worth money, especially if they also have a 1st Generation Hang Tag.

All 1st Generation Tush Tags will have the date 1993 or 1995 on them.

  • Most Common 1st Generation Tush Tag

In the picture above you can see that it says the Beanie Baby was Handmade in China. There are some variations to the 1st Generation Tush Tags, and those are explored more in depth below.

    Korean & CE Tush Tags

Generally speaking the “Hand Made in Korea” Tush Tag is considered more rare and can at times command extra value.

You’ll also notice that some of the 1st Gen Tush Tags will have the letters ‘CE’ on one side. These are sometimes referred to as the U.K. tag as they had to put the CE lettering to conform with local laws.

    Rare Korean 4 Line Tag

This 1993 Tush Tag is the very rare “4 Line” version. You can see that it has 4 Lines of text, and does not have the words ‘Surface Washable’ underneath the ‘Handmade in Korea’ line.

If you have a 1st Generation Beanie Baby with this 4 Line Tush Tag then you might have just hit the jackpot. A Punchers/Pinchers version sold on eBay for $1,800 in June 2013.

    Love My Beanies

    • It’s my understanding that every Ty 1st Gen Tush Tag was made the same way. If it is missing the comma or the period it is likely a counterfeit.

    • All Beanie Babies were originally sold with Hang Tags, but on the secondary market, many come without Hang Tags as they were often removed after the original purchase.

  • i have a bessie the cow beanie baby..its tush tag is white with red letters and a hang tag has uk on it.. can u tell me if its worth anything. ty

  • I have a few that have a few that have I believe 4th generation hang tags german. But they also have 2 tush tags one in the Ty tush tag the other is a thicker tag top like not to be removed until delivered to customer. One is a retired Derby. Would this be worth anything?

    • Hello Caitlin! It sounds like you have a Canadian Tush Tag, which were added to Beanie Babies sold in Canada. They are somewhat unique, but don’t necessarily add much value. For a 4th Generation Derby you’d only be looking at $3-8 or so.

  • So sorry, but I can’t find an answer anywhere else. I think my beanie has a second generation tag, but it looks like there is tape over the star? What does this mean? Can’t thank you enough, you run a great website, really spectacular, saved me so much time.

  • Great information! I’m not certain what to make of my pig tush tag. Unfortunately, i no long have the hang tag. The tush tag has 5 lines as follows:
    1993 TY INC.,
    OAKBROOK IL. U.S.A.
    ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
    HANDMADE IN KOREA
    SURFACE WASHABLE

The tush tag I saw on your site like this has the date 1995, not 1993. What do I make of this?

    Thank you for your reply!

    Amy

    • Hello! Thank you for contacting me.

It’s a bummer you don’t have the Hang Tag because it is a nice find. The Beanie is a Squealer the Pig. There are two types of Korea tags, a 4-Line version and the 5-Line version like the one you have. 1st Generation Tush Tags can have the dates 1993 or 1995 on them. The hang tag would have been a 1st, 2nd or 3rd Generation.

  • Hi;

I have a “Legs” the Frog, and I’m pretty sure with a 1st Generation Hang Tag, and a 1st Generation Tush tag. Any idea of the value?

    • An authenticated version would sell for over $100.00. Probably somewhere in between $100-$200, but they are hard to find and could go more. Anything under $100 would be a steal.

  • I have a “Squealer” pig with 1st Generation tags… 4-line Korean tush tag (actually sewn into the seam of one leg!)… and 1993 copyright date on the hang-tag, where it also says “Handmade in Korea.” It is in mint condition, except that the tag has been creased at one time.
Sounds to me like it could be a really valuable. Any advice?

    • Hello! If it has a 1st Generation Hang Tag: http://lovemybeanies.com/beanie-babies-hang-tag-generations-1-4/ then I would start by comparing the quality of the Beanie to another one you might have, even if that other one is a worthless one. There were lots of counterfeit Beanies made back in the day, and generally the quality of the fake ones were poor.

If things start to check out, then I would consider sending it in to be authenticated by someone like True Blue Beans: http://www.truebluebeans.com/ With all fees/shipping involved it costs around $25. If it’s an authentic 1st/1st Squealer with Korean Tags, it would be worth some decent money. Several hundred I would imagine.

Look it over, and let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Hi, I think I may have a rare Garcia bear. It has the well known misprint on the swing tag that reads “use to” instead of “used to.” Also there is no star on tush tag, neither does it have a stamp on the inside if the tush tag. It’s made in China with PVC pellets. Also, the capital letter “I” on the swing tag looks like the lowercase letter L. I’ve been getting mixed info about this so just wondering if its of any value.
    Thanks in advance!
    Ebiem

  • My sister passed away in September and left a large collection of beanies. Any suggestions on how I find the value of the beanies? How expensive is it to send them to an expert for authentication and suggested pricing?

    • Hello Margaret! I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your sister. If you have found some Beanie Babies with 1st Generation Tush Tags, see if you can determine which hang tag it has. It will either have a 1st, 2nd or 3rd Generation. A 1st Generation Hang Tag is easy to figure out because it does not open like a book like all other Beanie Hang Tags. The 2nd and 3rd Generation versions are different from the larger Ty logo found on the 3rd Gen versions.

Here are some pictures of Tag Generations 1-3: http://lovemybeanies.com/beanie-babies-hang-tag-generations-1-4/

The way Beanie Babie values typically work, is the closer you are to 1st/1st Tags – ie: Both Hang Tag and Tush Tag being 1st Generation. Those are worth the most. 2nd/1st – ie: 2nd Generation Hang Tag & 1st Generation Tush Tag are worth money, but typically not quite as much.

If you find some with 1st Gen Tush Tags, try and figure out which Hang Tag it has. Write down the combinations and leave me a comment with the ones you have.

Authenticating some of them could be worth it if you have the right tag combinations. Typically authenticating them could run you about $20 per beanie. It’s worth it if you have the right ones. I can point you in the right direction for authenticating them if you find some good ones. People typically use True Blue Beans, but there are other options as well.

      • I have a 3rd generation swing tag attached and a 1st generation tush tag Romeo beanie baby from 1997. Is it worth anything? It is in excellent condition.

    • Go to the web site Beckys True Beanies to get them Authenticated it costs 3$ to evaluate them and she will send them back with a certificate saying fake or real.. but im also interested in what you have for sale…im looking for 1-2-3 generation ones that just say TY on the HEART TAG NO GOLD STAR those are 4th gen thanks

  • I have a quick question I am going thru a lot of beanies and some may be 1st gen ones from my research on your site but the problem I am finding right now is the red hang tag is so brittle from being in these plastic cylinders and bags that some have cracked and no longer attached to the products. How can I put them back on or is it even possible? and does it devalues them now?

  • I have a couple hundred beanies I was thinking to donate but now I’m going to go through them first and check out some tags, unless someone is interested in all? My children collected them now in their mid 20’s have no interest. Help

    • I am a kindergarten teacher in a poverty school and my students love these as a treasure chest prize. Every summer I scour yardsales and flea markets for people cleaning out their things. I am extremely interested in your beanies, but not for profit reasons.

        • Hey Joey I am INTERESTED in the 1-2-3 generation ones … but im sure uve seen the outrageous amounts of money people are asking especially on Ebay I Know BBs very well I work with people that know there stuff..if ur asking crazy amounts u probably wont sell them like u think but if u can email me a list of what u have maybe a list or pics of the ones That have the HEART TAG that says ONLY TY on it NO GOLD STAR those are 4th Generations im not interested in those but the ones that say Only TY im definetly interested thank you

    • If you have any beanies with either a 1st, 2nd or 3rd hang tag, I may be interested. Feel free to contact me at ishkibable at gmail dot com

  • I have several beanie babys. I have Happy style 4117, Spangle don’t know what style, Peace, Try 2k, Derby, Strut. Is any of them worth anything? Thank you!

  • I have a about 200 beanie babies I’m looking to sell. My sisters and I used to collect them and now with them in their 30s and me in my mid 20s, we really have no use for them. Its was fun collecting them we always made sure to get multiples of each whenever we could. 1 for playing and 1 for our collection.
But alas it’s time to part ways with them. I was looking at a few other websites and I came across a list of retired babies and how much they normally go for. But some I was super confused with like Patti the Platypus, Mystic the Unicorn (brown horn and shiny horn) and a few more I can’t even place. Can you give me a run down of what collectors are looking for and where I could sell them.

    • Hello. Beanie Babies are valuable based on the tags they have. The most desirable versions will have a 1st Generation Hang Tag and a 1st Generation Tush Tag. It can be confusing pricing Beanie Babies without knowing the tags. A 1st Generation Patti the Platypus is probably worth a few hundred dollars. A 5th Generation Patti is worth .99 cents. They look exactly the same except for the tags.

99.9% of Beanie Babies are worth about .50-$1. eBay is the only active marketplace for beanie babies. I would look through the ones you have to try and find 1st Generation versions.

    • If you have any beanies with either a 1st, 2nd or 3rd hang tag, I may be interested. Feel free to contact me at ishkibable at gmail dot com
