All Beanie Babies come with a Ty Hang Tag that will be vital to know if any of your Beanie Babies are worth money. Hang tags also are referred to as Swing and Heart Tags.

Here you will find information on the Hang Tags for the first 4 Generations of Beanie Babies.

Most 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Generation Beanie Babies, with proper tags, can be worth money even today.

⚠️ Important: Once you start getting into 4th Generation Beanie Babies and up, very few of those are worth money. 99.9% of 4th Gen+ Beanie Babies are worth less than $5.

1️⃣ 1st Generation Hang Tags – “Skinny Ty” Logo

⭐ Key Identifiers:

  • Flat tags that DO NOT open like a book (most important!)
  • “Skinny Ty” lettering on the front
  • Made in either China or Korea
  • U.K. versions had ‘CE’ on the white side
⚠️ McDonald’s Teenie Beanies: These also have flat tags but are clearly marked “Teenie” and are NOT 1st Generation. They’re worth much less!

Many people get fooled and think they have a valuable Beanie Baby, only to find out it doesn’t have a 1st Generation Hang Tag and was part of another Generation that was mass produced.

2️⃣ 2nd Generation Hang Tags

⭐ Key Identifiers:

  • DO open like a book (unlike 1st Gen)
  • Still has “Skinny Ty” font on front
  • Bar code on the back
  • “Retain Tag For Reference” phrase on back
  • U.K. versions have ‘CE’ logo inside
🚨 Counterfeit Alert: Be CAREFUL of counterfeit 2nd Generation Hang Tags!
Check the U.K. tag: “LTD” in all caps = FAKE. Authentic tags write it as “Ltd” (lowercase letters).

3️⃣ 3rd Generation Hang Tags – “Bubble Font Ty”

⭐ Key Identifier:

The Ty Logo is now in a “bubble font” style instead of skinny letters.

Beanie Babies with the 3rd Generation Heart Tag and a 1st Generation Tush Tag can be worth money for the right beanie!

There are FOUR variations of 3rd Generation tags:

Variation 1: German Tags (Rare!)

Known as “German Tags” – these can be very rare and sought after for 3rd Generation Beanie Babies.

  • “to” and “from” written in italics
  • “The Beanie Babies Collection” is underlined
  • “Importeur Ty Ty Deutschland” at top of back
  • U.K. ‘CE’ mark next to bar code

Variation 2: “Retain Tag For Reference”

The 3rd Generation Tag with the “Retain Tag For Reference” phrase on the back seems somewhat rare.

  • © on the left inside
  • “For ages 3 and up” phrase

Variation 3: “Child Under 36 Months”

Back of tag says: “Please remove all swing tags before giving this item to a child under 36 months.”

  • U.K. ‘CE’ logo next to bar code
  • © logo only next to U.S.A address inside

Variation 4: All Addresses Have ©

The © logo is now next to all addresses inside the tag.

  • Back says: “Please remove all swing tags before giving this item to a child” (no age mentioned)

4️⃣ 4th Generation Hang Tags – Poems!

⭐ Key Identifiers:

  • First tags with poem and date of birth
  • First tags with www.ty.com
VALUE WARNING: 99.9% of Beanie Babies with 4th Gen Hang Tags are worth less than $5. These were mass-produced!

The Ty company was having some issues with obtaining the domain name, and on some 4th Generation tags the domain will be cut off, or a white sticker will be applied over the area with the website.

There are FOUR variations of 4th Generation tags:

Variation 1: Sticker Over www.ty.com (Somewhat Rare)

Ty placed a white sticker over: “Visit our Webpage!!! http://www.ty.com”

The sticker doesn’t completely cover up the website text.

Value: $8-$50+ depending on the Beanie. Some sell for $9.99 or less.

Variation 2: No Website Printed at Bottom

Instead of a sticker, they simply left the website info off the tag.

Example: Coral 4th Gen sold for $26.00 in May 2013. Hit or miss in terms of value.

Variation 3: Germany Address + Website Info (Common)

Most common 4th Generation tag to find.

  • Website information at bottom
  • Germany Ty address on left
  • “The Beanie Babies ™ Collection” has ™ mark

Variation 4: Canada Address + ® and ™

Very similar to Variation 3.

  • Canada Ty address instead of Germany
  • “The Beanie Babies ® Collection ™” has both ® and ™

  1. I’m trying to find what generation my frog “legs” is from your website. It looks like a 3rd generation variation 4, but mine swing tag does not have “CE” on the back.

    1. Hi Angela, There might be some beanies from the 3rd generation that don’t have the CE, but I’m looking into that now. Do you know which Tush Tag you have? That will tell you what generation your swing tag is from.

Here are the 1st Gen Tush: http://lovemybeanies.com/1st-generation-beanie-babies-tush-tag/
      2nd Gen Tush: http://lovemybeanies.com/2nd-generation-beanie-babies-tush-tags/

If you have a 2nd generation tush tag, then you 100% have a 3rd generation swing tag Legs. The Tush tag & the swing tag changed for the 4th generation. Let me know if you still need help identifying your beanie.

  2. Hello! My question is for Georgette, I have a third generation hang tag, but can’t figure out the Tush tag as it is a rusty Brown color with ©1993 Ty inc. Pvc Pellets reg. Pa 1965 [KR]? Want aware the tush tags come in different colors? Also have a 2000 hang tag cashew with a shiny silver tush tag? Thank You for any help an have a Great Week!

    1. Hello Kellie! Your Georgette is actually apart of the Ty Attic Treasures line, which is kind of like a different “model” of Beanie Babies. They had some different type of Tush Tags that were different from regular Beanie Babies. Your Cashew is a regular Beanie Babie and the shiny silver tag is from the 9th Generation. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

  3. Hi, I have a Flitter and Valentina, both with what appear to be 4th gen tags with Canada address but they’re slightly different than you show here. It says “The Beanie Babies Collection +R” (you know, the R with the circle around it :)). It does list the website but without the http:// and no “visit our web page!”. Any chance that these differences are noteworthy? I.e., of course, more valuable? Thanks!

    1. Hello Lisa! It appears that Flitter and Valentina both come with 5th Generation Hang Tags which are just as you described them. I haven’t created a page for 5th Generation Tags and above, but have been meaning to. Both Flitter & Valentina can have different types of 5th Gen Tags, but from what I have seen, none that create extra value.

  4. Hi I have a few beanies with error one is chocalte moose and the other is I believe Valentino what is the value and should I get them COA.thanks

  7. I have at least 100 beanie babies. I’ve looked up the names of quite a few and they were supposedly “retired” like Derby, Erin, Millennium, and Hope. I need help determining what they are worth. All are mint condition with tags attached some in the tag nprotective cases.

    please and thank you

  8. Hi, my name is Mary. I got a Manny the Manatee beanie baby with a poem error ‘like’ instead of ‘likes’ (She likes to twirl and like to bow). It has a 4th generation variation 3 (Germany and website info), and I don’t know if it’s a rare mistake or a common one.

  9. I have a lot of beanie babies that websites say are rare but some have the tag missing so would that make them worthless and I also have a princess Diana one but without its tag also so would that be worthless also

    1. Hello, a couple have recently sold online for about $7-10. It’s apart of the Classics line, which are larger than Beanie Babies.

  10. Help lol have about 300 beanies some rare some not id like to sell as a whole. Any advice? Trying not to get ripped, I inherited them awhile back and in 1999 she had them appraised for about 15000-20000. Thank you

    1. Hello! Your best bet is to go through and pick out the ones with 1st Generation Tush Tags: http://lovemybeanies.com/1st-generation-beanie-babies-tush-tag/

These are the earliest ones and can be worth decent money depending what Hang Tag it has. Beanie Babies with 1st Generation Tush Tags can only have hang tags that are 1st, 2nd or 3rd Generation. Versions with “1st/1st” Tags are worth the most, and ones with 3rd/1st Tags tend not to be worth as much.

See if you have any first generations versions and try to determine what hang tag it has. This page describes hang tag generations 1-3 and can help you out. Let me know if you found any, which generation both tags are from, and I can help you on some potential values.

  11. Hello. I have a few of the original 9 beanies. Two without hang tags but thy do have the tush tags. Are they worth anything? Then, I have two that have I believe 4th gen hang tags. Are they worth anyrhing? All four in great condition. I have over 1,000 an all have always been kept in cases.

  12. I have a few swing tabs that are 4th generation and the word original is spelled wrong. what would that be worth

    1. The misspelling of the hang tag is fairly common on 4th Generation versions, the value though would depend on which Beanie Babie it is.

  13. I have 4th/5th generation beanies. I have seen on ebay.com that several of them are priced into the thousands. Is this legit? I have the Princess in mint condition and kept in container since she came home with me. Is it possible that she is really worth $10000?

    1. 99.9% of 4th and 5th Generation Beanie Babies are worthless. eBay sellers will put crazy prices on their items for some reason. The odds of them selling for that price are 0. I think the most valuable Princess Bear might be worth $40. The rest are in the $2 range. Ty made over 1 million princess bears, they are very common and have very little value.

  14. Hi I have a first 9 patti the platypus with both 1rst generation tags on it and in excellent condition do you know how much she could be sold of thanks 🙂

    1. Hello! If it’s an authentic 1st/1st Patti it is rare and worth decent money. Probably at least $150 depending on the condition.

  15. Hello! I was wanting to know if anyone is still active on this thread? I have a question I would like to ask. Thanks.

  17. Hello, I was wondering what the value would be if a beanie baby has multiple swing tags ( factory accident) Have you ever seen one with 2or 3 swing tags ? I’ve seen them with double tush tags.

  18. I have a fuzz beanie baby in good condition. He has double tush tags and one is holographic. He has know stars on his tush tag. He also has 1998 on his hang tag and 1999 on his tush tag. He also has Ty Europe and Ty Canada on his hang tag. I think he may be worth a lot of money but iI’m naot sure. Can you tell me what you think?

  19. Hi , I have couple hundred 4 th generation and I have a few of the ones from Macsonalds. Are they worth anything ? Thanks

    Donna

  20. I have a first gen 1993 teenie beanie Bones with hang tag in great shape. Could it be worth anything? Also I have several more teenies from same generation. And I have three beanie baby plush dolls. Have you ever seen those?

    1. Hello! The McDonalds Beanies were the most successful promotion in the history of McD’s but unfortunately that means millions were made. Teenie Beanies have very limited value, maybe $1-$3 or so. The dolls might be Attic Treasures? Or perhaps another one of his other lines. Typically only older Beanie Babies have collectible value, his other lines and newer toys don’t have much collectible value.

  21. Hi I have a 4th generation Seaweed™ style 2080 beanie baby with a germany + website info swing tag. Could it be worth anything?

  22. I have a ton of beanie babies my grandmother has been saving for me and she just gave them to me and I am very confused on what I have and what they are worth. Where can I find someone trustworthy enough to not rip me off. She gave them to me to sell for money towards a honeymoon!
