All Beanie Babies come with a Ty Hang Tag that will be vital to know if any of your Beanie Babies are worth money. Hang tags also are referred to as Swing and Heart Tags.

Here you will find information on the Hang Tags for the first 4 Generations of Beanie Babies.

Most 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Generation Beanie Babies, with proper tags, can be worth money even today.

⚠️ Important: Once you start getting into 4th Generation Beanie Babies and up, very few of those are worth money. 99.9% of 4th Gen+ Beanie Babies are worth less than $5.

1️⃣ 1st Generation Hang Tags – “Skinny Ty” Logo

⭐ Key Identifiers:

  • Flat tags that DO NOT open like a book (most important!)
  • “Skinny Ty” lettering on the front
  • Made in either China or Korea
  • U.K. versions had ‘CE’ on the white side
⚠️ McDonald’s Teenie Beanies: These also have flat tags but are clearly marked “Teenie” and are NOT 1st Generation. They’re worth much less!

Many people get fooled and think they have a valuable Beanie Baby, only to find out it doesn’t have a 1st Generation Hang Tag and was part of another Generation that was mass produced.

2️⃣ 2nd Generation Hang Tags

⭐ Key Identifiers:

  • DO open like a book (unlike 1st Gen)
  • Still has “Skinny Ty” font on front
  • Bar code on the back
  • “Retain Tag For Reference” phrase on back
  • U.K. versions have ‘CE’ logo inside
🚨 Counterfeit Alert: Be CAREFUL of counterfeit 2nd Generation Hang Tags!
Check the U.K. tag: “LTD” in all caps = FAKE. Authentic tags write it as “Ltd” (lowercase letters).

3️⃣ 3rd Generation Hang Tags – “Bubble Font Ty”

⭐ Key Identifier:

The Ty Logo is now in a “bubble font” style instead of skinny letters.

Beanie Babies with the 3rd Generation Heart Tag and a 1st Generation Tush Tag can be worth money for the right beanie!

There are FOUR variations of 3rd Generation tags:

Variation 1: German Tags (Rare!)

Known as “German Tags” – these can be very rare and sought after for 3rd Generation Beanie Babies.

  • “to” and “from” written in italics
  • “The Beanie Babies Collection” is underlined
  • “Importeur Ty Ty Deutschland” at top of back
  • U.K. ‘CE’ mark next to bar code

Variation 2: “Retain Tag For Reference”

The 3rd Generation Tag with the “Retain Tag For Reference” phrase on the back seems somewhat rare.

  • © on the left inside
  • “For ages 3 and up” phrase

Variation 3: “Child Under 36 Months”

Back of tag says: “Please remove all swing tags before giving this item to a child under 36 months.”

  • U.K. ‘CE’ logo next to bar code
  • © logo only next to U.S.A address inside

Variation 4: All Addresses Have ©

The © logo is now next to all addresses inside the tag.

  • Back says: “Please remove all swing tags before giving this item to a child” (no age mentioned)

4️⃣ 4th Generation Hang Tags – Poems!

⭐ Key Identifiers:

  • First tags with poem and date of birth
  • First tags with www.ty.com
VALUE WARNING: 99.9% of Beanie Babies with 4th Gen Hang Tags are worth less than $5. These were mass-produced!

The Ty company was having some issues with obtaining the domain name, and on some 4th Generation tags the domain will be cut off, or a white sticker will be applied over the area with the website.

There are FOUR variations of 4th Generation tags:

Variation 1: Sticker Over www.ty.com (Somewhat Rare)

Ty placed a white sticker over: “Visit our Webpage!!! http://www.ty.com”

The sticker doesn’t completely cover up the website text.

Value: $8-$50+ depending on the Beanie. Some sell for $9.99 or less.

Variation 2: No Website Printed at Bottom

Instead of a sticker, they simply left the website info off the tag.

Example: Coral 4th Gen sold for $26.00 in May 2013. Hit or miss in terms of value.

Variation 3: Germany Address + Website Info (Common)

Most common 4th Generation tag to find.

  • Website information at bottom
  • Germany Ty address on left
  • “The Beanie Babies ™ Collection” has ™ mark

Variation 4: Canada Address + ® and ™

Very similar to Variation 3.

  • Canada Ty address instead of Germany
  • “The Beanie Babies ® Collection ™” has both ® and ™

  2. I have a 1999 Erin the bear. It is green and has a small white shamrock on it. It is still in its original box. The tag only has the TY on front. On the back it says Erin the Bear then some business info. The tag doesn’t open. There is only info on the front and back. Is it worth anything?

  3. Hello: I have a “Claude” not CLAUDE” with 16 errors in him with P.V.C. Pellets where can I find out how much he is worth.

I also have a Clubby still in a sealed bag that was manufactured without a bar code on the swing tag. I am unable to find any information about that matter. If this is a mistake would he be a one of a kind?

  4. I have a Jolly the Walrus with a hang tag that has an extra page in it. I believe it is either 3rd or 4th gen. Is this worth anything?

  5. Ok I hope this one perks your interest. My new find is…”Valentino” here are his errors that I can find. 1- Face of swing tag the “i’s” look like lower case “L’s. 2-Inside left side of swing tag has The Beanie Babies then TM then Collection. So I think that means he is a forth generation. 3- No punctuation after Oakbrook. He has both U.K. And Germany on the left. Moving to the right inside of the swing tag. 4-DOB Reads exactly as shown,
DATE OF BIRTH : 2-14-94, 5- after the last word in the poem “you” there is no space before the put an “!”, 6- after Visit our web page there are “!!!”, no error on back of swing tag. 7- Tush Tag looks as if there is a sticker covering up something on his tush tag. I want to try and pull it off but know if I should, 8- Back of Tush Tag has date 1993 while swing tag date is 1994, 9- No Punctuation after the word Oakbrook, 10- No period after A in U.S.A, 11- No period after the letter C in P.V.C , 12- He has 2 black eyes but his nose is brown,13- His ears are not on center,14 – Right arm and leg are slightly longer than the left. I think that’s it. So if I were to advertise him would I say ” Valentino white with red heart that has 14 errors” then list the errors, then include the condition which is perfect. What’s your best guesstimate on value?

  6. I have a peace beanie with a flaw I haven’t heard of. On the right eye it has a price of felt or plastic showing it about 11:30 (clock face location) and on the left eye the same thing but it is at about 6:00. What can you tell me about this. It also has about4 more flaw’s

  7. I have a Patti with what I believe is a 4th gen tush tag and a 4th gen hang tag. The address information that is in the left side of the hang tag is different from the ones you have listed. Mine has listed from top to bottom: TyInc. Oakbrook IL U.S.A, Ty UK Ltd. Fareham, Hants Po15 5TX, Ty Deutschland 90008 Nurnberg

Have you heard of this style and if so does it make a difference in its worth? What would that worth be?

  8. Having trouble identifying this one, “Chips”–not on the list. Larger size than normal. Front of hang tag looks 3rd gen. Inside doesn’t have “beanie babies collection” written at all or underlined. Other side has to and from etc. Tush tag is not on list at all. Front has ty logo only, back has ty inc. copyright 1996, …etc. thoughts?

    1. Generally both the Swing Tag and the Tush Tag will have the Born on Dates in plain sight. Sometimes these dates are different from one to the other, but most of the time they are the same. Example: September 5, 1993 or 09-05-93. Both of these are correct.

  19. Soooo, I have a mystic beanie, with a 6th generation tush tag and 5th generation hang tag. A Ty 2k with i think a 7th generation tush tag and 5th generation hang tag. And A Sammy beanie with a 7th generation rush tag and no hang tag….those aren’t worth anything??
